Artist: Reizan, signed on upper right with his two chop seals. Medium: Handpainted Japanese Scroll on Silk w/Brocade.The Subject : Japanese Samurai in Snowy day. The condition of scroll: Very good, no tears. This is Japanese Antique handpainted scroll from Late Edo around 1850-60's. It has the subject of Japanese Samurai and Tsuji Toro(Lantern).Samurai wear Ami Gasa (a hat made of braided straw).He has Swords of Tachi (long) and Shoto(short). Tachi has red Saya which normal Samurai does not carry red saya because it is Hade (flashy). His Kimono is also Hade with unusual Kimono design. He wear Haori (traditional Japanese Kimono Jacket over Kimono. Snowing over him which showing snow flakes as seeing.There are two black spots front of Samurai which are believed as original not accidentally painted as the accent of scroll.There is Tsuji Toro which is street Night lantern.The Samurai figure must be rich man or higher class Samurai family because of fancy looking.The condition of scroll is good other than water stained area on upper scroll as well as lower scroll. Please note the Jiku end (scroll) left side has been replaced with Synthetic material as original Jiku end was gone. Scroll is made with fine brocade background.Scroll hanging well.
