Japanese Handpainted Scroll Makuri Sparrow by Seki Nao

The Size of Makuri Painting Image: 10" W x 53 3/8" L
The scroll Size : 14 1/2” x 70 1/4”
Artist: Seki Nao
Signed by Artist : Seki Nao with his chop seal.
Medium: Sumi and Wa-enogu(Japanese water color)
The title: Kijyaku (Happy Sparrows)、written on outside.
The condition of scroll: excellent on painting, no stain
neither torn. Scroll background with some deteriorated edge.

The year of Work: during end of Taisho to early Showa
1920-1940's
The condition of Painting: Excellent.
This is nice Handpainted Japanese scroll Makuri painting with
the subject of Suzume (Japanese sparrows). There are total
of six sparrows beautifully painted Washi paper. Each sparrow are finely painted.
The Makuri image are mounted on paper scroll with four sides are
pasted on scroll body which is also made with paper.
Jiku end (black wooden finish). Since the paper scroll is old,
we recommend to mount on another new scroll body or
put desire length of painting into framing.
Or, storing the painting as rolled up.

A "Japanese makuri painting" refers to a type of Japanese
hanging scroll painting, often called kakemono or kakejiku.
The term "makuri" specifically describes an unframed, decorative,
hand-painted scroll, also known as a honshi. These paintings
are made on materials like silk or paper and are designed
to be rolled up for storage.
