Beautiful Japanese Ivory Yellow Vase by Kato Keizan 2nd

The size of Vase: 9 1/4" High x 6 1/8" Dia, Bottom Kodai 3 3/4" Dia. This is wonderful Ivory Color Porcelain Vase by Kato Keizan 2nd (1913-1995). This vase quality is superb and immaculately made in ivory color. Same color and quality as Seifu Yohei III. The vase was made from the design of old Chinese Bronze piece. The vase has two ear handles in the design of dragon head. It came with Tomobako in Kiri wood and Tomonuno. The cover said in Japanese "Kikoji" (Ivory yellow porcelain). "Mimitsuki Hanaike" (Flower vase with ears). Inside cover has Keizan signature Kaizan made and his chop seal.There is inscription of Keizan on bottom of Vase. Tmonuno with seal of Keizan. The condition of vase excellent. No chip, no crack and no hairline. Dating from 1970's.

Kato Keizan 2 nd (1913-1995, Taisho 2nd to Heisei 7th)
He was born as eldest son of 1st Kato Keizan in Kyoto city. He graduated Daini Kogyo Gakko(industrial school), Ceramic Department. After he finished his school, he went into Kyoto National Toji Shikenjo(ceramic porcelain laboratory) and studied the glazing as well as basic potting skills there. From 1931, he helped his father 1st Kato Keizan and served as his assistance. Same year, he became Shinko Kogeikai member. He also received the techniques from 5th Kiyomizu Rokubei. Same year he presented his works to Teiten(imperial art exhibition) as well as Futen (Kyoto prefectural exhibition) and received high recognition many times. From 1940, he received the certificate of Obtainer of potting technique from Shokosho(Commerce department). After the war, in 1955, he became a member of Kyoto Togeikai Association (pottery artist association) founders. He has greatly contributed to Kyoto Ceramic world. As his father, 1st Kato Keizan passed away in 1963, he succeeded as 2nd Kato Keizan. He moved his kiln to Oyamazaki, Kyoto. As he followed the techniques from his father on basic, he has developed his own pursuing career to recreate the Chinese Song dynasty Seiji, celadon finish. His most famous Seiji finish including Tenryuji Seiji with Tobi Seiji(spotty celadon), White porcelain, Purple Seiji, were developed by him. Also he added on those porcelain with carved and relief works as well are left after he passed away. He did many private show in Takashimaya department stores and at others. His Toin(seal) marking on his works are “Keizan”, “Hochu”, Kyoshinan”. Insription mark, “Keizan”.
