The size of Kanzashi: 7" Long, 3/4" dia of Cloisonne ball. Fine Japanese Iron Kanzashi with beautiful gold inlaid. Kanzashi(ornamental hairpin) is made with Iron, ear pick area and end pieces are made with silver. There are very fine gold inlaid works on below cloisonne ball. Cloisonne ball is modern because original piece has been missing and replaced with cloisonne ball. The condition of Kanzashi excellent. Dating iron Kanzashi from Edo period.
Kanzashi are hair ornaments used in traditional Japanese hairstyles. Kanzashi first appeared when women abandoned the traditional taregami hairstyle where the hair was kept straight and long, and adopted coiffured nihongami hairstyles. Kanzashi came into wide use during the Edo period when artisans began to produce more finely crafted products.
