Japanese Woodblock Print by Tomikichiro Tokuriki
The size of print sheet: 16 1/4" Wide x 11 1/2" High. The size of image area: 15" Wide x 10 1/2" High. The artist: Tomikichiro Tokuriki(1902-2000). The subject: Fuji 36 kei-no-uchi, Kawaguchiko no sakasa Fuji (one of Fuji 36 scene, Kawaguchi lake, upside down Fuji). Publisher: Uchida Bijutsu Shoten in Kyoto. Published year 1939-1940, before World War II. There is seal of Tomikichiro on lower left on the image as well as lower right outside image area. The condition of print very good except, little wear off four corners. One tear area on upper right side in the size of 1 1/4" C shape as photo showing. Left side edge has 1/4 tear also. However, C shape area tear spot will not show well once it is framed. A couples of small indendention area at upper right area. The Hanga printed on lighter paper. The subject is mirror image of Mt. Fuji on Kawaguchi lake. This is one of 36 Fuji scene made by Tomikichiro. 36 scenery of Tokuriki's work is best of his series.

Tokuriki Tomikichiro(1902-2000)
He was born in the family who has been Honganji Temple painter. He was 12th generation. He graduated Kyoto city School of fine Arts and Crafts and Kyoto city specialist school of painting as top student in 1924. He entered the private school of Tuchida Bakusen and . He made three study trips to Korea. He exhibited Japanese style Kokuga Sosaku Kyokai. He received the award. In 1928, he has joinded with Muunakata Shiko and Hiratsuka Unichi, in their Dojin Magazine and published. In 1929 switched to mokuhan. Exhibited with Kokugakai, Mihon Hanga Kyokai, Shun'yokai, Teiten Shin Bunten, Nitten, and in numerous solo exhibitions in Japan and abroad. Member of Nihon Hanga Kyokai from 1932. Active in promoting Sosaku-hanga in Kyoto. Published Taishu hanga in Kyoto with Asada Benji and others. Contributed to Han, Shin hanga, and Kitsusuki. Organized the Red Green Society (Tanryokukai) which put out "Collection of Small Prints" (Han shohinshu). In 1946 after the war, he has established Hanga Seisakusho(printing shop). He has trained many students. In 1962, he has traveled to USA and many european countries for sketching trip. In 1964, he has demonstrated in many countries and received a praise. In 1968, he has exhibited with Munakata Shiko at Cleveland, Maker Company department store.He received several special awards from Kyoto city as well as Japanese goverment. He passed away in Kyoto by the age of 98.
