The size of Scroll Painting: 20"Wide x 44 1/2" Long, Painting area size: 15 1/2" Wide x 11 1/4" Long. The size of Jiku end(scroll end) 22" Wide. The beautiful Japanes Scroll painting done in silk background. Lighter top and bottom area silk has Kiri design. It is finely painted by Tosa Mitsusada. The subject of Kam(turtle) with reeds area in water front. The turtle as well as reeds are finely painted. The condition of scroll is excellent. No tear on the scroll. It has very little wear for the age of scroll painting. The backside top area has some age worn but no tear. No noticeable stains. It has very little wear and tiny wear spot. It is dated from late 18th century. It is signed and sealed of Mitsusada on lower left. Ga-shoryou, Tosa no Kami Mitsusada. Jiku end made with bone. The scroll came with Kiri wood box.
Tosa Mitsusada(1738-1806)
Mitsusada was born in Genbun 3rd(1738) as Tosa Mitsuyoshi and as the brother of Mitsuatsu at Kyoto. His child age name was shigematsu. Azana(nick name) was shijun. Also Enran. He has established his artistic talent from Tosa family and he was allowed to own the land as the artist by Tosano Kami(Lord Tosa). He has maintained traditional Tosa scholl painting style as other artist became more stylized. He became Jyu Yoni Jo(high ranking) palace official. He died in Bunka 3rd(1806). |
