The size of Chawan: 5" Dia x 3 5/8". Very nice Japanese Maccha Chawan, Tea Bowl made by master artist, Nishikawa Ninoru. It has very beautiful glazing and keshiki from kiln work. The body is stoneware type more like Echizen ware or Iraho type body. He is master of Rokuro turning. The condiiton of tea bowl excellent, no chip, no crack and no hairline. It came with Kiri(paulownia) wood Tomobako as well as cotton cloth with Minoru stamped. The bowl has marking of Minoru. The cover of tomobako said, Hinata Chawan, Minoru-zo(made) with his chop seal. Dating from 1950-1960's. Nishikawa Minoru(1929- ). He was born in Kyoto. He studied under Kusube Yaichi as well as Kano Mitsuo, master of Kyo Yaki artist. He has received many award including Nitten Prime Minister award as well as other awards. He is member of Nitten Judge. Kyoto Kogei Artist board member. Nippon New Art and Craft board member. He is listed in Japanese Artist almanac. His tea bowl been selling in Japan one thousand dollar I just found out. He is 80 yers old. |
