The size of Scroll: 22 1/2" W x 80 1/2" L, painting area size: 16" W x 56" L. Japanese Scroll painting by well listed artist, Ueda, Banshu(1869-1952). The scroll is done in silk brocade border as well as silk background. The subject of painting is "Moon and Two Geese(Gan)". It is painted by Sumi-E.(black ink). Moon is at the upper center area with slight clouds cover. Two geese(male and female) at the bottom area. Well excuted brush work which make the feather warm. Good experssion of each bird. Banshu was born in Kyoto. He studied under Imao, Keinen which are member of Maruyama School founded by Okyo Maruyama. Banshu was also the one of 16 member who founded Nippon Jiyu Gadan which were operated until 1942 before the war. The scroll condition is excellent, no stain and no foxing except a couple of minor crease which are very minimum for age scroll. No sun tan. Scroll ends are made of Ivory. Scroll came with Paulownia wooden box(Kiri box) perfectly fit. The inside top cover is also bear the signature of Banshu and his chop seal as the scroll has the signature and chop seal on lower right. Dating of scroll from end of Meiji to early Taisho period. 1890-1920. |
