The size of Tsuru Tray: 7 1/2" x 4 11/16" x 2 15/16". It is beautiful Japanese Porcelain Tsuru(crane) tray used at Tea Ceremony. Same piece is listed in exhibition catalog done by Ashmolean Museum, May 3-July 2, 1993 and The Walters Art Gallery Dec 3-April 9, 1995, Bridging East and West, Japanese Ceramics from the Kozan Studio, selection from the Perry Foundation. The page 50, plate No.26, Ash Container in Shape of Crane, porcelain with underglaze black, overglazed red. (last catalog photo page showing). Tomobako(kiri wood): inside cover said,Tancho Zuru, Tancho Crane, Makuzu Kozan Saku(made). The condition of Crane tray is excellent, no chip, no crack and no hairline. Please note there is one original Kiln line inside tray wall as one of photo showing on extra photos. This line was occured during bisk drying process often happened and it is filled after bisk process and it is completely glazed, surface is very smooth finished. It is only inside tray where hard to see, and no line outside. The hole next to marking is air hole. Crane head, black is underglazed, red is overglazed. The marking on Crane tray is same marking which showed Japanese marking page. It said Makuzu. This marking was used on the work of Makuzu Kozan 1 st thru Makuzu Kozan III generations. Dating from early Showa. |
