Rare Original Sketch Painting Book by Shibata Zeshin
The Painting Book by Shibata Zeshin(1807-1891).
The size of Painting Book; 14 cm Long x 9 cm Wide x 1cm Thick
5 1/2h Long x 3 1/2h Wide x 3/8h Thick
The cover Title: Zeshin Okina Hitsu, Shikushin Ki (Painted by Older Zeshin, Chikushin written). This case written meaning is authenticated by Chikushin. The cover is made by Asa(Japanese hemp).
The year of paintings: Meiji Kanoto-Mi Haru(Meiji 14 th, Spring- 1881 Spring), Zeshin (Zeshin's signature and his chop seal, Koma) on last page
Painting Subjects: 14 various subjects
The condition of Paintings: Very good
There is tiny one worm hole at the lower corners left and right, from the painting of Plum to Shrimp painting
There are also worm hole at four corners on the painting of Gold fish to last painting as photo showing. Photo continued to item#945420.

Wonderful group paintings done by Shibata Zeshin(1807-1891), on 1881 when he was at age of 74. The cover title is written by the Zeshin's close student Chikushin(Soji Chikushin, 1855-1936) who also often identify and authenticated the works of Zeshin after Zeshin passed away. It is guarantee the signature of Chikushin and his seal on the cover is genuine. It is painted on one long piece of paper and folded like Byobu screen (folded screen) as one photo showing from top view. There are total of 14 painting subjects, 1. Plum by Suiboku(black ink), 2.Tsubaki(camellia), 3. Two mice, 4. Fuefuki Doji(little boy with flute), famous Japanese character, 5. Fuji Mountain and Clouds( Kindoro, gold on clouds), 6. Bat and Moon, 7. Sekirei(wagtail bird). 8. Village, 9. Ayu (sweetfish), 10. Shrimp, 11. Gold Fish(there is gold material in painting).
The following three paintings are on our additional photo page #931674, 12. Pine tree scenery, 13. Batterfly(Kindoro, gold painting), and 14. Kikyo(Chinese bellflower).
It is guaranteed the all of paintings are done by Shibata Zeshin himself. Zeshin's signature and seal of Koma. Zeshin is also lacquer artist who became the student of lacquer master artist Koma Kansai. This is why Zeshin used his Koma seal. And authenticated by his student Shoji Chikushin(1855-1936). There is same type sketch book done in Makie (lacquer) painting existing at Kyoto National Museum, Kyoto, Japan.

One of sketch painting subject of Fuefuki Doji(little boy with flute) is in our Daruma Magazine Volume No.64 advertising this fall.
