The size of Jade carving: 4 9/16" High x 3 5/8" Long x 3 3/8" Deep. Very fine quality Chinese Jade with covered vase sitting on Quilin. Japanese called Kirin. Very finely carved jade. Left side area has little bit brownish tone at the hair of foo dog and vase ring handle area. I do not know if the vase and foo dog are carved from separate stone. I think it is. The vase mounted on Foo Dog. Inside vase is also well carved. The lid fit perfectly. The condition is excellent, no chip, no crack and no hairline. Dating of Jade carving can not be pin pointed but at least before 1960. As from the side view, the vase is leaning toward back little. I think this way looks good from front viewing point. The wooden base with silver line inlaid. It is guaranteed it is Jade. Please note if you see the line on photo they are not in the carving rather it is reflection of photo tent line. No line in the jade. The cover of vase has also Qilin detail carved which hard to show in the photo. Qilin, Kirin In the Ming dynasty of China (1368–1644) the Qilin is represented as an oxen-hooved animal with a dragon-like head surmounted by a pair of horns and flame-like head ornaments. A Qing dynasty example The Qilin of China's subsequent Manchurian dominated Qing dynasty (1644–1911) is a much more fanciful animal. Manchurian depictions of the Qilin show a creature with the head of a dragon, the antlers of a deer, the skin and scales of a fish, the hooves of an ox and tail of a lion. |
