The size of Scroll Painting: 15 3/8" W x 66 1/2" L, Image area size: 10 1/2" W x 31 1/4" L The subject: Rooster and Chick Artist: signed Soken lower right with Soken sealed. Condition of scroll: very good for the age. Age of scroll: around 1800's. Very nice Japanese scroll painting done on silk background with brocade. The subjest of Rooster and one little chick peaking from father's featherly body. Very finely painted with crest painted in detail. Fine expression of rooster as well as chick and feather. The condition of scroll painting very good except the some wear on the outside of upper back where scroll roll as the photos showing, but it is only back and not in front, no torn and repair part. No major stains except one spot upper scroll left side. The straight string of scroll is worn, but you can hang the scroll no trouble. Jiku end is made of wood. Lower jiku center has a nick spot as photo showing. No wooden box. It bear the signature of Soken and his red seal on lower right. Soken is Yamaguchi Soken(1759-1818). He was one of best student of Maruyama Okyo who lived 1733-1795. He was the founder of Maruyama School. Soken was talented in his redition of scnes from every-day life. |
