| The size of Makie Ryoshi Bako: 6 3/4" Long x 4 5/16" Wide x 5" High. Very attractive Japanese Makie Ryoshi Bako. Ryoshi Bako was used as Stationery Box. This ryoshi bako done with Roiro Urushi(lacquer). It has one of Daimyo(fedural lord) family Mon. It is same design Katabami Mon from Dewano Kuni Tsuruoka Clan, today's Akita Prefecture. Box has two drawers. Inside has red lacquer finish. Each drawers has roiro urushi outside and bottom. It has fine drawer knob done with Mon design. The top drawer used for other purpose than keeping papers because it has Washi(japense rice paper) covered top of red lacquer. The drawer box is really well made with fine wood. The both drawers very functioning well without warping even this day. Teh drawer open and closing very smoothly without catching the edge. The condition of drawer box very good for the age. It has some wear as the age but not major one. Little scratch here and there, but it has been kept well condition. There is no hairline and no crack. It is marked, Maegawa on the bottom by red lacquer. Dating from late Edo Period it is more around 1800's-1850's. It will make great jewel box. | ||||||||||||
