The size of Bowl: 6 5/8" Dia x 1 1/2" High. Beautiful and Fine quality Japanese Kouki Nabeshima Porcelain Bowl. The bowl is made from very fine quality porcelain with fine glazing. The bowl is done in Yokoku (relief) work in the design of clouds. The center has the double dragons, one facing and other one facing backward. It is painted very nicely in Sometsuke(blue underglaze). Back side has three Shippo Tsugi design on the border area. The finely painted with comb design. It is wonderful piece. This bowl is done in Tenpo to late Edo period. 1830-1860. The condition of bowl is excellent, no chip, no crack and no hairline. Ther is one tiny needlepoint shallow spot which showing 6 o'clock at first photo and 5th photo right side but it is the size of 1mm from kiln. The bowl is well balance and sit perfect. The same design piece appear on the book of "Kouki Nabeshima II" by Kazuyoshi Ogi as photo page showing. We guarantee the age and description. It came with Kiri(paulownia wood) box (newer). Background of Kouki NabeshimaFew years back in 1828, Bunka 11th, there was a big fire in Arita southern parts which destroyed many kilns and manufature houses. Also, early Tenpo period, there was rice shortage because of back weather. The Lord Naomasa Nabeshima ordered to re-develope Nabeshima Yaki(ware) in order to support the financially for their own clan's need which they created again fine Nabeshima bowls which were flourished in early Edo Chuki from Genroru period. |
