| The size of Netsuke: 2 1/4"L x 1 1/8" W x 1 1/4" H. Very unusual and nice Japanese Antique Netsuke. Netsuke is made from Kokutan (black ebony wood which is hard wood). Design subject is one mouse on the top of Tawara(rice straw bag) which is very finely carved in the detail. One suprise is there is one hole at the one end of bag, there is white mouse peeking out from Tawara. To bring out the white mouse or to make disappearing mouse by littel shape Netsu which white mouse will desappear. The white mouse is made from ivory or bone. At the one of Himotoshi hole inside straw bag was carved out and the section of straw carved out with matching design perfectly, and not showing the covered area noticeable. The condition of Netsuke is excellent. It is wonderful Netsuke. Dating from Edo Kouki(late Edo). Early 19c, 1820-1840's. The most unsual Netsuke ever seen. Not signed. | ||||||||||||
