| The size of Haisen Bowl: 5 3/8" Dia x 4 1/4" High. Lovely Japanese Roiro Makie(lacquer) Haisen Bowl. Haisen is used for washing sake cup when they have party and exchange the sake cup with guest and host. Keep the water inside. This bowl has lovely works of sea shell design with sea grass done in gold and brown laquer works. Inside side wall done with Kinpaku(gold leaf) work. The top rim has Suzu(tin) trim. It came with original aged wooden box. It has dating on the one side(last photo), said "Keio Gannen, Shimo-tsuki Matsu"(Keio period 1865 end of November). It is rare to have Tomobako with works. The condition of Haisen excellent. There are only few tiny wear spots(3 inside) and 2 outside noticable, but they are all minor. Great shape for end of Edo work, 1850-1860's. | |||||||||||||||
