| The size of Painting: 50 1/2" Long x 11 3/4" Wide. It is beautiful Japanese Ukiyo-e original painting on the paper. The painting has the subject of Bijin-Ga with cherry blossoms tree behind. The painting is done very handsomely with fine brush strokes. Beautiful condition except noting there are 4 mushikui(insect bit) holes at upper left corner. A couple of place at the edge has Mushikui, one at left and other one at right edge. Some paper crease upper painting area 8" from top as 10th photo showing. The painting is Mekuri which is painting part only without backing neither backing of any kind. It is great to be framed without showing any of Mushikui as first picture showing upto little above Sakura tree. Dating from late Edo to early Meiji, 1850-1870. The artist name written on black obi painting area in red, Shunpu, and also the title of painting, Asuka Yama no zu(painting of Asuka mountain). Asuka Yama was famous for cherry blossom viewing area in Edo(Tokyo)at the time of Edo period, this subject depict the cherry blossom viewing scene as the cherry blossoms petal falling from the tree as the Bijin carrying the umbrella. Asuka cherry blossoms viewing also used as Hiroshige as well as Hokusai Hanga subject. The expression of Bijin(beauty) is wonderfuly excuted. There are several paper are joined together to make this long as you might see the joint area. Very fine original handpainted Japanese Mekuri. The artist is believed to be one of Utagawa school artist. The colors of painting are very crisp. | ||||||||||||||
