Classy Kyoto Satsuma, Awata Yaki Deep Bowl by Hozan
The size of Bowl: 4 1/8" Dia x 5" High. Very finely made Japanese Kyoto Satsuma Deep Bowl by Hozan. The bowl is made with very finely(thinnly) made wall fine crackle glazing Kyoto Satsuma. Kyoto Satsuma is better known in the west. The bowl is actually made Awata Yaki( Kinkozan satsuma was also made in same area). It is made by Hozan Bunzo whose family, Unrinzan Hozan, 7th Hozan opened the kiln at Awata area Kyoto in 1645. This bowl is made by 17th Hozan in Meiji period.(1868-1880). It is marked with Hozan signature which was inscribed on the back, Hozan Zo(made). The bowl has design of Shippo tsunagi(chained) by turqoise enamel color. Inside each shippo design has gold design painted. It is simple color, yet it has very high class elegance as many of Awata yaki which many time used at imperial household. This bowl is no exception. The top of bowl has six spots of pincehd edge finish. The bowl is made very well. The condition of bowl is excellent, no chip, no crack and no hairline. One little Kamahi line at the side of Kodai(foot rim) with completely galzed. The bowl is probablly used in Chado.
