The size of Saya(sheath) Inro: 3 1/8" Long x 1 7/8" Wide x 3/4" Thick. The size of Netsuke: 1 1/2" Long. The size of Ojime: 5/8" Long. The size of ojime(2): 1/2 dia. Very unuusal and rare Saya(sheath) Inro. The case outside with mon design open work is made by lacquerd wooden finish. Inside cases are made by buffalo horn. It fit very good and move well. First Ojime withe the face of Otafuku and Hyottoko( which are humorous face often used for dancing mask and comically fanny, see the article at the end). It is made by elephant Ivory. Second ojime below Inro is made by coral. Netsuke is made by Kinomi(somekind nut, but I think it is Tagua nut -which was also called vegetable ivory because of hardness). It is very finely carved the face of Otafuku in detail. Otafuku writing in Japanese as, A lot of happiness. Otafuku face is the beauty face from Heian period. Fine facial lines are carved including mouth and teeth. Netsuke was made and signed by Shogyoku, accroding to the Netsuke reference book. It is Netsuke artist who lived in Middle Edo, around Kansei Period(1790-1800). Dating of Inro from late 18th century(Kansei) to early part 19th century. From Edo Kouki(late Edo). The condition of Saya Inro has soome age wear including, one side upper area with open hairline and a cople of smaller hairline on other side. One nick on the bottom. Inside cases has minor nicks as you expected in old inro but well kept for over all. Netsuke condition excellent, no chip, no crack no hairline. Left side Otafuku face and nut skin end has very slightly open from age. I never seen anything like this Saya Inro anywhere with unusual Ojime and Nestuke.Buyer pay actual shipping/insurance cost. Estimated $1,450.00-$1,500.00.

Okame and Hyottoko
Two comic masks often worn in theatrical or displayed in houses and shops. Okame also known as Otafuku, is a plump, rosy cheeked, laughing maiden's face whose well fed look symbolizes prosperity. A modification of the KYOGEN OTO mask, it is often worn in fork plays or KABUKI DANCES. Hyottoko is the face of a man whose pursed protruding lips are skewed to one side. It is thought to derive either from the KYOGEN USOBUKI mask or from the face of a man trying to kindle a fire. Hyottoko and okame are often paired together in comic dances during villages agricultural festivals.
