Most Unusual Ko Imari Porcelain Flat Platter 17th Century

The size of Platter: 11 13/16” x 13” x 9/16” to 1 3/4” High. This is very old and fine Japanese Porcelain Ko Imari Platter from 1650-1680’s, mid 17th century. The platter was authenticated by Kurita Bijutsukan (Kurita Museum) in Ashikaga which the authentication paper loaded in last page. The platter has the design of Plum (Ume) tree branches as well as plum blossoms. Platter might had attached three legs before putting into the kiln, but they must be removed before putting the platter and entering into kiln for firing, because each leg has been clearly removed without damaging platter and one foot mark showing glazing trace on the side of leg used be with glaze. The condition of platter is excellent other than some original kiln flaws (hairlines, separation of clay part) which all were made while in the kiln. The platter sit well and surface of platter is very smoothly flat. The dark brown spots around the platter including on the flower petal and end of plum tree branches are all by Tetsuyu (iron glaze). Blue surface depicting water surface with plum blossoms floating. The dating the platter from 1650’s to 1680’s, middle Edo.
