The size of Vase: 12” High x 8 1/2” Dia(widest), 30.4cm x 21.7 cm. The weight of vase 4.5 kg. This is beautiful “Hishoku Gama Seiji” (secret color kiln), celadon vase by Seifu Yohei IV (1871-1951). The design of vase is Takenoko, Bamboo shoot. The shape of vase from Northern Sung Dynasty vase. It came with Kiri wood Tomobako. The cover written on top in Japanese, “Hishoku Gama”(secret color kiln), “Kabin” (flower vase) with the chop seal of Seifu. Inside cover has the signature of Seifu, “Seifu Zo” (Seifu made) with the chop seal of Seizan. Hishoku (secret color, mi se in Chinese) Gama. There is inscription signature by Seifu IV in the center and bottom of vase. The condition of vase is excellent, no chip, no crack and no hairline except noting there are some minor wear out edge spots as photo showing. Dating of Vase in 1920-30’s.
The history of “Hishoku Gama” (secret color kiln) goes back to 7 th century, Tang Dynasty (618-907). After Tang dynasty is over and it went to Five Dynasties (907-960). The color was forbidden used by normal peoples and the tradition of this went on five dynasties, and presented the works to each dynasty’s emperors.
